What on earth are sell off vacations? You may well never have heard the expression, but this article sets out to try to explain exactly how you could benefit from them when it comes to your holiday this year.

Basically sell off vacations are vacations that cost less than the original brochure price. This would normally happen close to the dates of departure. Put another way, the holiday company has failed to sell the holiday at the original price so it is reducing the price on the principle that it is better to make a sale at a lower profit, even a slight loss than not to sell it at all.

Booking this type of vacation can save you hundreds of pounds sterling or dollars depending on the currency you have at home. The question many people ask involves the expression 'sell off', because there must be a catch somewhere, for you don't get something for nothing in this day and age.

Of course there are drawbacks, but the advantages far outweigh the disadvantages. So what are the main disadvantages to sell off vacations? What this means effectively is that as the purchaser you must be open minded, and just looking for a vacation without being too fussy over where it is, or even the quality of accommodation, and you need to be able to travel at very short notice.

Obviously this type of vacation is probably totally unsuited to a family of four where the parents both work and have two weeks starting on a Saturday and finishing on a Saturday. They have little or no room for manoeuvre and they need two accommodation units because of the children.

On the other hand a young couple with no children, could have the same timing limitations, but are prepared to take 10 days within the two week window, and aren't fussy about where they go, or where they stay can make the most of sell off vacations.

In conclusion they might just save you a great deal of money this year, so keep your eyes peeled and your ears to the ground when you visit your Travel Agent.
