Orlando, Florida - Five Things You May Not Know

1.) It gets cold.

Most people think that because Orlando, Florida is the sunshine state that it doesn't get cold. This is a false assumption. There may not be "seasons" but it does get chilly from time to time.

Normally from January-March the weather is a little more brisk outside. During these months the temperatures can drop as low as 50 degrees. Sometimes colder. If you plan on visiting Orlando during these months than don't plan on doing water activities. It will be a little too cold for that. But rest assured there are plenty of other Orlando, Florida attractions to choose from.

2.) Speaking of attractions, there's more to do in than just the theme parks.

Orlando, Florida is world famous for one thing, Disney World. But, there are so many other things to do in Orlando, Florida than just Disney and the other theme parks. Many that are much more affordable. There's dinner shows, nearby beaches and springs, shopping, and local attractions like Gatorland that give you a taste of the real Florida.

3.) Hurricanes don't hit Orlando very often.

Turn on the news and you may hear about hurricanes hitting Florida. The truth of the matter is that hurricanes rarely hit. Orlando is very inland so by the time a hurricane gets close it has become just a strong thunderstorm.

Having lived in Orlando for over 30 years I have been through only a handful of hurricanes. Most came and went with no more destruction than a few downed trees and power lines. The one good thing about hurricanes is that, unlike other natural disasters, there's plenty of warning if a storm is going to hit.

4.) Orlando, Florida is not as expensive as you may think.

If you start to plan early you'll be surprised how much money you can save. Be sure to check online for discounts on the theme parks, hotels, and flights. The best way to save money is to visit during the non-peak seasons. January-March is a good time to avoid the lines but as mentioned earlier it's a little colder out. October-December is another good time to visit.

5.) The worst time to visit Orlando is during the summer.

Many people visit Orlando, Florida during the summer. There is not worst time. For one it's very hot outside. The sun and humidity is brutal during the summer months in Orlando. June-August are the hottest months of the year.

Another reason the summer time is bad is because it's during the peak of the season. You will be waiting in lines that may take hours. Add that to the heat and it makes for an undesirable vacation. Not to mention being in the sun causes many bad sunburns. It would be much more enjoyable to visit when you don't have to fight the heat and the crowds.

So there you have some things you may not know about Orlando, Florida. But now you know!

10 Interesting Facts About Orlando, Florida

We're all familiar with the main attractions in Orlando, Florida-Disney World, SeaWorld, the Universal Orlando Resort-but for better or worse these tourist draws often take attention away from the many other virtues of this great city. While Orlando is a top destination for domestic tourism, it's also the center of the 27th biggest metropolitan area in the U.S., with a population of over two million. With all these people, plus Orlando's beautiful Florida location, the city has a lot of things going for it. Here are 10 things about Orlando that you may not have known before.

1. Orlando is the seat of Orange County, so-named due to the fact that the region was once one of the most productive citrus-producing areas in the country. This agriculture has declined as the urban area has spread out over the years, but there are still many orange farms in the region.

2. Orlando is the second most popular destination in the U.S. for domestic tourism, with only Las Vegas placing higher. It has the greatest number of hotels and the second greatest number of hotel rooms (again, after Vegas).

3. In 1965, Walt Disney chose Orlando as the site for his planned Walt Disney World largely because its inland location made it less prone to hurricane damage than cities like Miami and Tampa, which were also under consideration. The resort opened in 1971.

4. No one is quite sure where the city of Orlando got its name, but the likely story is that the city is named after Orlando Reeves, an American soldier who died during the Second Seminole War. Other possible namesakes include a settler named Orlando Acosta (whose name was found scratched in a tree) and the character Orlando in Shakespeare's As You Like It.

5. Orlando had a humid subtropical climate, with a rainy season during the summer. The coolest month is January with an average high of 72, while the hottest months are July and August, which average 92. June, July, and August see nearly three times as much rain as the winter months, and this has a huge effect on determining the Orlando peak tourist seasons.

6. Although tourism is a major part of the Orlando economy, the city also benefits from its thriving high-tech industry, and it's a center of television, film, and gaming production.

7. Many films and television shows have been filmed completely or in part in Orlando-including Ernest Saves Christmas,Never Back Down,Passenger 57,Lethal Weapon 3,The Waterboy, Monster,Jaws 3,My Girl,Parenthood,Larry the Cable Guy, and the upcoming Transformers 3.

8. Many popular music acts have gotten their start in Orlando, including NSync, the Backstreet Boys, and Matchbox Twenty.

9. The tallest building in Orlando is the SunTrust Center. At 441 feet and 35 stories, the imposing structure completed in 1988 is also the tallest building in Central Florida.

10. The Orlando area receives an estimated 50 million tourists each year, with the vast majority being from elsewhere in the United States. The next most common group of tourists are from the United Kingdom.

Free Places to Visit in Orlando, Florida

What comes to mind when someone mentions the action-filled location of Orlando, Florida, and the surrounding areas? Do you think of having your kids meet Mickey Mouse and other Disney Characters at any Walt Disney World theme park? Do you conjure images of the themed area at Universal's Islands of Adventure, the Wizarding World of Harry Potter? Do you bring up pictures of Elmo meeting Shamu at SeaWorld Orlando?

Let's face it -- all the excitement and family fun of the theme park capital of the world is expensive. If you go to any theme park in the area, be it Epcot or SeaWorld Orlando, chances are that you'll pay for more than the admission tickets and seasonal or annual passes. You pay parking fees, meals (including many breakfasts where you take pictures of your relatives and their favorite cartoon characters), and souvenirs that are too materialistic. Water parks also work that way too: unless you stay at a resort with one, you pay for the admission and parking if it has a fee. You may be wondering if there's anything in Orlando that is completely free -- somewhere where you don't have to pay at the gate or booth. My friend, there are great places worth visits that suit your above needs.

The Epcot Resorts Area: around the borders of placid Crescent Lake lie the resorts that are just a mere walk away from Epcot, where its signature globe of Spaceship Earth can be visible without paying to actually get there. Feel free to park on any parking lot of any resort, take a stroll, and admire the beauty of each hotel. If you love free entertainment and love taking pictures, head on over to Disney's Boardwalk and watch some street performers like jugglers and clowns. I recommend that you visit during Christmas -- the decorations are worth many photo opportunities.
Downtown Disney: although it's regarded as a shopping mall, with stores, restaurants, and penny rides wanting your money, it's a free attraction of its own. If window-shopping is not your cup of tea, feel free to take pictures of the window displays, store signs, and buildings. Kids will love the interactive fountain play area to cool off on a hot day and the LEGO Imagination Center if they love building their own creations with blocks. Like the Epcot Resorts Area, Downtown Disney is a free place to visit at the Walt Disney World resort -- who says that everything is not free of charge?
Basilica of the National Shrine of Mary, Queen of the Universe: if you are a Catholic and want to place a basilica in your vacation plans in Orlando, look no further than the eastbound edge of I-4. Just minutes away from the excitement of Walt Disney World and other Orlando area theme parks, this church is a haven for those who want peace and quiet or for those who want to commit to going to Mass if any day of their vacations falls on a Sunday. Marvel at the main church - it offers some of the best stained-glass windows that are guaranteed to dazzle you. Also, meditate in the Rosary Garden, look around in the gift shop, and take pictures of the surrounding greenery and fountains. If you either want to foster your Catholic faith or want to get away from all the hustle and bustle the Orlando area is known for free of charge, add this basilica to your vacation plans or just visit it.

Orlando may be expensive in so many ways: you hand out lots of money for meals, spa treatments, theme park prices, souvenirs, and much more. On the other hand, it offers places where you can just get in without paying a dime. I strongly recommend visiting those above places if you really want a change of pace from riding spinning rides, meeting crazy movie characters, and above all, spending way too much money.

Travel Tips - Booking a Cheap Orlando Vacation

Orlando, Florida is a vacationer's paradise. Contrary to popular belief, you don't have to have children to enjoy the theme parks and attractions in Orlando, which include Disney World, Universal Studios, Epcot Center, Disney's Animal Kingdom, and the Disney-MGM Studios. Indeed, Orlando is a wonderful, magical place - and a destination you'll certainly want to visit more than once.

One of the challenges that many people face is finding a cheap Orlando vacation. After all, airfare, hotel accommodations, meals, and theme park entrance fees can take a big bite out of your pocketbook. Here are some tips on booking an Orlando vacation at a bargain price....

1. Purchase a Package

Although some people are intent upon purchasing airfare, hotel accommodations, and park passes separately, the truth is that you'll get a much better deal if you buy an Orlando vacation package. Those who sell Orlando vacation packages get deeply discounted rates, and can pass those savings on to you. Although you may suspect that some packages are too good to be true, once you check out the reputation of the sellers, you are likely to find that the offers are legitimate.

2. Be Flexible in Your Travel Dates

The more flexible you are in your travel dates, the more likely you are to find a cheap Orlando vacation package. If you're insistent upon traveling during peak periods, you're going to pay premium prices. If, on the other hand, you are able to travel in the non-peak season, you'll find a plethora of bargains from which to choose.

3. Look for the Extras in Accommodations

Travel packages vary widely in the types and length of accommodations offered, as well as the tickets that are included. It pays to do your research and find the package that offers you the biggest bang for your bucks. You may, for example, find a cheap Orlando vacation for only $249 per person, double occupancy. It could include such features as four nights of hotel accommodations near the Disney Main Gate plus two nights of hotel accommodations in Cocoa Beach, Florida.

4. Look for the Extras in Tickets

Some Orlando vacation packages offer an amazing array of tickets and passes, so be sure to find the one that best suits your interests and needs. For example, you may find a package that's discounted 65% from what you'd normally pay, and that still includes two one-day passes to Disney or Universal, two Kennedy Space Center tickets, Sterling Casino Day Cruise tickets, dinner theater tickets, and so forth.

5. Consider a Timeshare

If you love all that Orlando has to offer, consider purchasing a timeshare in the area. A timeshare provides you with access to all of Orlando's attractions while giving you a place to call "home." As those who own timeshares can attest, it's a great feeling to know that you have a place to stay while you're in Orlando - particularly if that place is a resort. For those who are looking for a cheap Orlando vacation and who don't own a timeshare, there are resort companies that offer incredibly cheap Orlando vacations in exchange for listening to a sales presentation. You really can't beat the prices when all you have to do in return is give up an hour or two of your time.

Don't let cost keep you from visiting one of the most magical places in the United States. Find a cheap Orlando vacation and enjoy all that the Sunshine State has to offer!

Eating Out in Orlando, Florida

Restaurants and eating hangouts are in no short supply in Orlando, Florida. Foodies (or gourmands if you're into fine dining) have an abundance of options from all you can eat buffets to a medley of flavours ranging from Cuban, Mexican and Italian to Chinese, Indian and Japanese. With such a varied selection, you needn't eat the same thing twice during a short visit. Better yet, many of these menu options come at a wonderfully reasonable price.

A number of restaurants provide inexpensive breakfast buffets, which are great for saving money without skimping on the variety and volume of the meal. Most popular are the Southern style breakfasts, which offer savoury, sweet and salty flavours from its variety of southern style biscuits and gravy coupled with a hearty helping of grits. Most restaurants even offer free coffee refills. IHOP is one of the area's best places to eat an inexpensive breakfast. For something a little more upmarket, major hotels in the area offer champagne Sunday brunches, provided you book in advance.

When it comes to lunchtime, if you're not up for a heavy meal, try the Japanese options for sushi, sashimi or teppanyaki. Sushi House is reputed to be the best restaurant for all of the above. The menu holds both modern and traditional items, including an interesting "Japanese fusion sushi" and provides a variety of sakes and wines to round out the experience.

Seafood lovers should check out McCormick & Schmick's Seafood Restaurant, offering (arguably) the freshest seafood in Florida. The menu is typically Floridian in style, which is generally a Caribbean themed menu offered in large quantities.

Of course, a steak dinner should always be somewhere on your list of foods to try. Morton's is regarded as one of Orlando's best steakhouses, offering a wide variety of cuts and styles all cooked to order. It is slightly on the high side of pricing, however, and your attire would need to be a tad classier than shorts and sandals.

For a break from the norm, check out Medieval Times Dinner Theatre. It puts a whole new spin on "dinner and a show." Here, you'll find yourself enthralled by a jousting tournament, games, and hand-to-hand combat between six noble knights elected by the king. The sole winner at the end is rewarded with the position of becoming the king's personal champion...and the right to select a beautiful woman as his own from the maidens of the castle. Due to the popularity of the show, everyone should make reservations well in advance.

Orlando Timeshare Deals - Vacation in Florida For a Lot Less Money

The Excuses -

How many times have you wanted to go on vacation only to then think of 100 reasons that you couldn't. Bills need paying, House needs fixing, Gas is too expensive, Hotel Stay is too expensive etc.

What Excuses!

There is a solution to most of those questions. What would you say If I could tell you a Way to travel to the vacation capitol of the world (Orlando Florida). You can stay in a 5 star resort for the cost of a motel. And visit the theme parks and diner shows for free.

You probably would tell me I was lying. Well guess what I am not.

With the combination of Walt Disney World, Universal Studios Orlando and Sea World, Orlando has became the top travel destination in the World.  Because of this it has also became the Time Share headquarters of the world. So why do I need to know that you ask.

Time shares get owners 3 ways - And two can benefit you directly (if you want a cheap vacation)

First Method - Time Share Rentals

You can find timeshare rental by searching the web. They usually offer tremendous savings on the line of 149 for 4days - 3 nights. This is 50 dollars a night to stay in a 5 start resort. The catch is you have to attend a high pressure sales presentation. They are trying to sell you a time share.. (also you get a free breakfast at the presentation)

Most of the time the rentals will also include attraction tickets for free...

Second Method - Vacationers looking for cheap / free tickets

Timeshares advertise in the Orlando area saying "get two free Disney tickets". What they want is once again for you to go through the high pressure sales pitch and try and sell you a time share. (Once again a free breakfast)

Last Method and least used - Someone just buys

So what does this do for you.

There are no limitations to how many timeshare presentations that you can attend. And the Orlando area is loaded with resorts to visit. There are people that come to Orlando as a couple and never buy an attraction ticket or Breakfast cause they are getting them from presentations.

Teen Pregnancies In Orlando Schools

Times have changed and so have all social paradigms. All these changes come with their own sets of problems. One of the gravest ones today is that of teen pregnancies in schools across the country. including the Orlando Florida schools.

A teen pregnancy, though the result of a few moments of careless indulgence, usually open up a Pandora 's Box. It is the start of a long series of events, crucial to both the young parents (if at all the father comes forward and owns up) and the newborn. Orlando schools recognize this, but what is it that they can do or should be doing to bring things under control?

Abstinence, Improved Sex Education or Birth Control - a rather difficult choice for Orlando schools

Dealing with teen pregnancies is certainly not easy for anyone concerned not just in Orlando schools. What's the way out? Should we look at treating the root cause or the effects?

There are a few options that schools in Orlando have. One is taking the conservative approach to solving the problem and espousing abstinence. However, in today's world where children are becoming both sexually active and experimental at as young as 10, this option doesn't stand even the remotest chance of being successful! No wonder, Orlando schools are being forced to seriously consider other options.

Though sex education is already a part of the curriculum across schools in Orlando starting from elementary through high school, it still is far from enough in dissuading teens from having (unsafe) sex and/or getting pregnant. The result is that Orlando schools continue to have to deal with young mothers and their problems.

Propagating birth control and safe sex, which is a very liberal approach seems to be the only way out. But doesn't that amount to allowing teens across Orlando schools to have sex in the first place? Why should the system itself provide for that opportunity for teens?

Their only business while at school is to focus on their studies, sports and other extra-curricular activities; there should be no place for sex - unless of course they wish to conveniently categorize it as an extra-curricular activity!

Maternity Leave for Pregnant Girls in Orlando Schools?

Another recent debate has been over whether teenaged pregnant girls in Orlando schools should qualify for maternity leave. It is a bit bizarre that such a thing as maternity leave for school children is even being considered! There has been the mention of even 'paternity leave' for the teenaged fathers from some quarters!

What else does this indicate other than encouragement for teens to get pregnant? On the contrary, some surveys have revealed that most teens across Orlando schools, who have already had a sexual encounter/experience, actually repented not having waited longer.

So, what remains to be seen is whether the conservative approach holds the key to the problem of teen pregnancies in Orlando schools.

How to Find a Home in Orlando for Rental During Vacation

Orlando is a beautiful city to visit at any time of the year. And because there are hundreds of things to do in Orlando, a weekend vacation is simply not enough. If you want your vacation in this city to be meaningful even in the smallest sense, consider staying a week at the very least. And to save on money, consider procuring a home rental instead of having to pay the expensive daily rates of hotels.

Home Rental vs. Hotel Stay in Orlando

LOCATION - If you live living close to where all the action is, hotels are usually strategically located downtown but it's possible for you to find homes in the city proper as well. If, however, you're after a suburban lifestyle during your Orlando vacation, a home rental would be more appropriate than staying in a hotel.

COSTS - If you are going to stay for a week or longer in Orlando, you'll find accommodation costs to be more affordable by renting a home. Also, there are lots of costs inclusive in hotel rates while home rentals generally charge you for the cost of the place itself alone. Also, landlords of Orlando home rentals will rarely ask you to limit the number of people living in their property, but the same can't be said for hotel management.

COMFORT - If you're going to rent a home in an exclusive residential community in Orlando, it's possible for you to enjoy all the amenities and more that you can expect from a hotel. Of course, expecting 24-hour room service might be too much.

Tips on Finding a Home in Orlando for Rental during Vacation

During your Orlando vacation, you'll no doubt encounter various types of home rentals so lack of choice definitely won't be a problem. Orlando home rentals can generally be divided into the following broad categories:

Estates and Mansions - You can rent out a mansion and live like royalty in Orlando for a week. Most of these home rentals will provide you with a range of luxurious amenities that will rival those being offered in hotels. Better yet, you can enjoy all of these in utmost privacy.

Resort Home Rentals - Orlando resorts also offer home rentals to family vacationers wishing to enjoy fun in public places. These resorts generally provide guests entertainment outlets such as restaurants, clubhouse, arcades, sports and fitness facilities, and of course pools and other water activities. This is also a good option for people traveling with several families and who wish to reside in one community or common area.

Condominium and Townhouse Rentals - If residing in a place that reminds you of home is what it would take to make you enjoy your Orlando vacation, then you need not worry because this city also offers condominium and townhouse rentals at affordable rates.

Consider the following factors to further narrow the field:
SIZE OR SPACE - Just how much space do you need or desire? Living in a cramped room in a hotel or a rented apartment might cause you to lose some of your enthusiasm for your Orlando vacation.

LOCATION - Try looking for a home that's located as closely as possible to the majority of tourist attractions that you're planning to visit.

FEATURES - How many bedrooms does it have? Is its dining room separate from the kitchen? Does the home rental have a pool? What about a garden? How many car slots do you need in a garage? How many bathrooms are there?

SERVICES - What kind of services do you believe you can't live without? Do you wish for 24-hour security? Are you after round the clock room service? How about the laundry and the cooking? Are you willing to do these chores or would living in a hassle-free hotel environment better for you?

Once you've decided on a particular home rental, make sure that you pay a visit prior to your vacation or have photos of the home rental sent to you. Negotiate diligently with your agent and imply that you have other options to consider. Review the home rental contract provided and don't hesitate to ask questions if you find any of the stipulations confusing. Ask about reservation and payment requirements.

And lastly, if you're truly sure about your choice then what's else is there to do but to sign the check?

An Orlando Jewel: The Wells Built Museum of African American History and Culture

After I had received a general overview of the history of the Orlando area in the Orange County Regional History Center, I wanted to delve a little deeper into the social history of the Orlando area, and the Wells Built Museum of African American History and Culture was going to give me a more in-depth look into Orlando's African American history.

To this day this area west of I-4 is primarily inhabited by African Americans and the difference in housing and facilities between this area and the downtown area is quite notable. As a matter of fact, the very name "Division Street" points to a distinct historical line of demarcation between black and white residential areas.

The origins of the Wells Built Museum date back to a prominent local African physician by the name of Dr. William Monroe Wells who started building the Well's Built Hotel in 1926 to provide lodging to African Americans during an era of segregation when accommodations were not available to them in other areas of Central Florida.

Next door to the Wells' Built was once the South Street Casino, a performance hall, which featured musicians that traveled the 'Chitlin Circuit' performing for audiences all over the country. The hotel opened with three storefronts on the first floor and hotel rooms on the second floor.

Dr. William Monroe Wells was one of Orlando's first black physicians and came to the area in 1917. Born in Ft. Gaines, Georgia, in 1889, Dr. Wells completed his medical training at Meharry Medical College. During part of WWII, Dr. William Monroe Wells was the only African American physician in Orlando.

During segregation, white physicians did not treat African American patients. African American doctors, therefore, earned their money from people of their own race. He worked very hard to serve the growing African American population in Orlando. With the help of his assistant, Mrs. Josie Belle Jackson, Dr. Wells is known to have delivered over 5,000 babies in Orlando.

He treated patients who suffered from pneumonia, influenza, scarlet fever and other serious illnesses before drugs like penicillin were introduced. Many of Dr. Wells' patients were extremely poor. He treated their illnesses though they many times could not afford to pay his fee. This allowed them to speak forcefully against poor conditions that existed in the African American community without fear of losing their livelihood.

Although African Americans were taxpayers like other residents of Orlando, they did not have access to recreational facilities, good schools, police protection, health care and other services that were provided to white citizens. This led him to build the South Street Casino and the hotel next door.

Dr. Wells booked bands and other big name entertainers to perform at the South Street Casino. Many famous performers that we know today played at South Street Casino within the Chitlin Circuit. A few examples of these performers are:

- Ray Charles
- B.B. King
- Louis Armstrong
- Guitar Slim
- Bo Diddley

African Americans came from all over the surrounding areas to Orlando to shop and take in performances of popular musicians at the South Street Casino. After the performances at the casino, the artists checked in at the historic Wells' Built Hotel. In its heyday, the Wells' Built provided lodging for clientele such as Pegleg Bates, Ella Fitzgerald, Roy Campenella, Thurgood Marshall, and Jackie Robinson. The entertainers and athletes who frequented this establishment made it one of the most popular venues for African Americans in the South.

Today the museum features over 6,000 square feet of display space. It retains the original hotel facade, a guestroom featuring authentic furniture, beading and decorations of the 1930's, and also bears an original interior wall reflecting important architectural elements and designs unique to the period. Exhibition material collected for display include: official hotel documents, an original Negro League baseball jersey, photographs, artifacts, books, multi-media exhibits, slave records and other items of historic significance.

Dr. Well's home has been moved to the site of the Casino and will be restored and opened to the public. The Well's Built Museum of African American Culture and History is located just west of I-4 near Church Street at 511 West South Street, Orlando 32801, tel. (407) 245-7535.

Why All Theme Parks in Orlando Have Ride Height Requirements

One of the most frustrating things to experience at a theme park is getting to a ride your kid has been talking about forever, only to find that he or she is not tall enough to ride it. The temper tantrums I have seen those poor kids throw, oh boy!

So it's a good idea to check first and make sure your child is tall enough to ride the ride before getting to it.
First let me explain just why they have height limits. Each ride is made with what they figure is an "average" size of the person who will be riding it.

Rides for little kids of course are made for child size. Bigger rides are made for a happy medium between kids heights and full, tall adults. The restraints that hold you in are made to fit MOST sizes, but there is a limit as to how much difference they can hold.

Mild rides that don't turn upside down or throw you around too much have a smaller height limit because there is less chance your going to get thrown out even if the restraints are loose on you. More extreme rides that do loops and throw you around must hold you in your seat very tightly.

So you must be taller so the shoulder harness can securely lock you in place. If your too short you could be thrown right off the ride, or fall out when it's upside down. Theme parks don't like flying kids, so they have height requirements!

It's for your own safety, and cost the parks less then having bruised kids suing them! Since every ride is different there actually are several different ride height requirements in every theme park.

All the big three theme parks in Orlando; Walt Disney World, Universal Studios and Sea World, have ride height requirements. All of them have rides made for little kids as well as more extreme rides made for teens and adults. If your child is not tall enough they will NOT let them on, no matter how sweet your smile is! Wearing platform shoes will not sway them either.

Almost any ride, even little kiddie rides, require you to be at least 34 inches tall. Some rides let an adult hold a child in their lap if it's a very mild ride. Walt Disney has a few child rides with 35 and 36 inch height requirements. The next most common height requirement is 38 inches tall. These can be lots of different types of rides, including simulators and kid roller coasters.

The next most common ride height requirements are 40, 42 and 44 inches tall. These take in a wide range of rides, most a bit more wild that go fast, have sharp turns or spins. Roller coasters that don't go upside down fall in this range, at least some do. The next jump up is 48 inches. You can go on most rides once your at least 48 inches, including some extreme roller coasters that do loops and other wild rides.

Finally there are just a few of the most extreme rides that have a 51, 52 and 54 inch height requirement. Almost all of these are extreme roller coasters or rides that throw you straight up. So, if your kids are between 34 and 54 inches tall there will be some rides they will not be able to go on. Each rides height requirement is clearly posted in front of each ride.

You can go to each theme parks website and find out the ride height requirements for every single ride in each park. Walt Disney World, Universal Studios and Sea World all have rides that range from the 34 inch tall to 54 inch tall requirements. So check them out before you go so you don't have a very upset child on your hands!

Orlando Vacation Tips to Make Your Stay More Enjoyable

When you go to Orlando we assume you will try at least one of the many theme parks. As noted they only have seven of the top ten in the country. Here are some time tested and very real tips to make your stay more enjoyable and save your sanity.

1. Realize that you will be spending a lot of time waiting in unshaded lines so be prepared with lots of water, sunscreen, sunshades (hats), and sunglasses. The sun can be brutal. If you get burned to a crisp your first day, the rest of your trip might be ruined. Dehydration and sunstroke are very real possibilities that can be avoided.

2. Also realize that walking a lot is in the cards, so dress comfortably including comfortable walking shoes-not ones you are wearing for the first time. It is hard for most people to visualize the enormity of the parks.

3. Try doing a little planning. Most people eat lunch between 1130 and 100 and dinner from 430-630 or so. Plan on beating the crowds for lunch and dinner by going earlier or later than most folks and if available take advantage of the Priority Seating Option. It will save you from waiting in that line for long.

4. Most people head to Tomorrowland when they get to the park. For that very reason try heading left when you walk in to Adventureland. Realize too that you will not be able to see everything your first day and maybe not even your second day. So set some priorities and some monetary limits.

5. Security is very good at most theme parks but realize that not everyone there wants you to spend your money some want to take it from you. Don't carry wads of cash. ATM's are all over the place.

6. You can try and remember where you parked but it is best to write it down on something that won't get lost.

7. A lot of rides have height restrictions for safety reasons. Knowing what they are and the restricted rides may save you some frustration.

Try using these tips to make your vacation more enjoyable.
