A walk in the city area of the city center will bring you face to face with the history of this major cities face. Its migration to the eight blocks of buildings that were designated in 1980 by the City of Orlando as a historic district, are concentrated. The neighborhood is a cohesive set ofBuilding that reflects the history of Orlando commercial and government clients.
The district is composed of buildings constructed between 1880 and 1940 in advance. Surrounded by modern skyscrapers, some 60 historic buildings in this district offer a glimpse into the past of the city. The appointment center has helped to keep the buildings that would otherwise have been due to the rapid growth rate and demand for commercial space destroyed in the boomCity.
Orlando 's first historic district shows the economic and political development of the city for over six decades. The district includes historic buildings such as the Guardian, the courthouses, banks, offices and commercial buildings. The variety of styles and sizes reflects the development of architecture and building in the city center.
The styles are represented in the neighborhood of Queen Anne, Twentieth Century-style commercial register, the Beaux-Arts, Mediterranean Revival, ArtDeco and Art Moderne. Almost all the buildings are brick through a series of fires at the end of 1800 that destroyed many wooden structures and prompted the city to move to new building standards.

1 Well'sbuilt Hotel, 511 West South Street
Dr. William Monroe Wells built this hotel in 1926. Has provided accommodation for African-Americans during segregation, when rooms were not available to them inother areas. Many famous artists and athletes are here. Next, Dr. Wells South Street Casino, where many of the entertainers performed for the African American community. Dr. William Monroe Wells House 2, 519 West South Street
Dr. William Monroe Wells built this Foursquare style house on a plot in one block east in 1924. He was known as one of the longest of Orlando 's practiceAfrican American doctors and was in economic and cultural life of communion with the Hotel and the South Street Casino Well'sbuilt involved.
3 Victorian House & Cottage, 541 West South Street
The Victorian House and Cottage are among the only Folk Victorian structures left in the city. The level of detail of the original turned columns, railings and fretwork is first excavated in any other building in Orlando.
4 Hankins Building,647 West South Street
And 'Dr. Hankins Art Deco building built this business in 1947. Hankins was an early African-American physician and civic leader. It 'was made an active participant in Washington Shores development, new home ownership opportunities for Orlando' s Afro-Americans available.
5 Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, 701 West South Street
This African-American church was organized in 1919 and met in various locations on the ground until it was finallybe acquired. The members of the Church ashlar blocks of concrete that were used for the construction of the walls. The Gothic church was opened 1921
6 Ebenezer Methodist Church, 596 West Church Street
In 1892 this church was a wooden church on this site. It 'was the first African-American Methodist Church in Orlando. Since 1922 the members built in Gothic style, the brick church.
7 Slemon Department Store, 129 West Church Street
This dryStore goods were built in 1924 for William Slemon. He first came to Orlando in 1886. Slemon and his sons owned a number of shops in the city of Orlando from 1880 until well into the mid-twentieth century.
